Name:cutleaf evening primrose
Scientific Name:Oenothera laciniata
Family:Onagraceae
Type:Broadleaf
Lifecycle:Perennial
Habit:Cutleaf evening primrose grows in fields, fencerows and waste places. It also grows on landscapes, nurseries, some agronomic crops, and occasionally turfgrass and lawns.
Leaves:The leaves are alternate. Leaves are toothed or lobed.
Leaf Arrangement:Alternate
Characteristics:It is a herbaceous plant which can reach 70cm in height, approximately 28inches. The branched stem is often reclining.
Flower Seed Head:The flowers of Cutleaf Evening Primrose have 4 regular Parts and are up to 3cm wide. They are pale yellow sometimes pink. Blooms first appear in late spring and continue into early fall.
Seed Fruit:It has an elongated, curved pod.
Where Found:Cutleaf evening primrose can be found in almost all of North America, east of the Rocky Mountains and some areas west of the Rockies.
